CHINA VISA FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)   


1. What type of visa needed to visit China ?

Unless you are a tourist from Singapore, Japan or Brunei, and you will need to get entry visa to visit China, following are the type of Chinese visas:

  • C Visa: Issued to crewmembers of a international train, airline, and other vessels.
  • D Visa: Issued to an alien who comes to reside permanently in China.
  • F Visa: Issued to an alien who is invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies
  • G Visa: Issued to an alien who transits through China.
  • J Visa: Issued to foreign resident correspondents in China.
  • L Visa: Issued to an alien who comes to China for sightseeing, family visiting or personal reason.
  • X Visa: Issued to an alien who comes to China for study, advanced studies or intern practice for a period of more than six months.
  • Z Visa: Issued to an alien who comes to China for a post or employment, and his or her accompanying family members.

2. What's the procedure obtaining Chinese visa ?

You may call direct from your hotel phone, but it's cheaper if you buy a phone card to make international call. Cell phone coverage and service level are very high in China, you may want to bring a GSM tri-band phone, just buy a local SIM card and charge airtime as you go.

  1. You may come to the Visa Office of the Embassy or Consulate-General in the consular jurisdiction in which you live to submit the application; or
  2. If you cannot come personally, you may entrust someone else or a travel/visa agent to come to the visa office of the Embassy or Consulate-General .
  3. Mailed in application will no be accepted and will be refused.
  4. No appointment is required.
3. What're the required materials needed when applying Chinese L-visa ?
  1. a valid passport with at least six months of validity, and with at least on blank page.
  2. a completed visa application (Q-1).
  3. a recent passport photo glued to the application.
  4. visa application fee are as follow:

4. Do I need visa to visit Hong Kong or Macau ?

Citizen of America and Canada, and most European countries can visit Hong Kong and Macau for up to 90 days without entry visa, for citizen of other countries, please check requirement at http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas_4.htm.


5. Can I get a landing visa when arrive at a Chinese port of entry ?

Most likely no, China's landing visa can only be granted during special event and with special needed.

6. Why do I need a agency to handle my application ?

If you live within travel distance of a Chinese embassy or consulate general (New York, DC, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angels, Houston), you may visit them during business hour to submit your application and pick up passport at a latter day. However, since they do not accept mail-in application, you would need entrust others to personally handle the application for you. Horizon Travel is located a short distance from China Consulate in NYC, we provides reliable service at reasonable price.

7. How long does the application process take ?

Usually consulates and embassies take 4-5 business day to complete the process, please be advised consulates observed all U.S. And China holidays. Allow extra couple days of shipping for agency-handled applications. There are also same-day express service and two-three days available with extra charge.

8. What's cost of my visa application ?

Please note there's required $130 per visa application required by consulate for U.S citizen, see Question-3 for application fee for other nationals.

We charge $45 service fee for each mail-in visa application, which included return registered postage.

If you need express service. same day expedited service will cost $85 per visa, 2-3 days service cost $65 per visa, which included express return postage.

If you need more than one visa, each additional application will cost $10 less.
